Foshan Good Steel is a premier manufacturer and supplier of high-quality stainless steel coils and sheets, based in China's metal logistics hub. We maintain a massive standing inventory of approximately 100,000 tons, covering grade 304, 316L, and 201 series in both hot-rolled and cold-rolled finishes. Our advanced processing workshop features high-precision slitting, surface brushing (No.4, HL, BA), and mirror polishing to meet exact client requirements. Every batch complies with ASTM and JIS specifications and comes with Mill Test Certificates (MTCs). Partner with us for competitive factory-direct wholesale pricing, robust seaworthy packaging, and agile logistics to power your manufacturing, automotive, or industrial construction projects globally.
What is the difference between cold rolling and hot rolling of stainless steel?
1. Processing temperature
Cold rolling: carried out at room temperature, below the recrystallization temperature.
Hot rolling: carried out at high temperature, usually above the recrystallization temperature.
2. Surface quality
Cold rolling: smooth surface, high dimensional accuracy.
Hot rolling: rough surface, may have oxide scale.
3. Mechanical properties
Cold rolling: high strength and hardness, but low plasticity.
Hot rolling: good plasticity, relatively low strength and hardness.
4. Dimensional accuracy
Cold rolling: high dimensional accuracy, uniform thickness.
Hot rolling: low dimensional accuracy, large thickness deviation.
5. Application areas
Cold rolling: used for products with high surface quality and high precision, such as automotive parts, home appliance panels.
Hot rolling: used for products with low surface requirements, such as building structures, pipelines.
6. Production cost
Cold rolling: complex process, high equipment requirements, high cost.
Hot rolling: simple process, low cost.
7. Work hardening
Cold rolling: Work hardening is obvious, annealing is required.
Hot rolling: Work hardening is not obvious, annealing is usually not required.
Summary
Cold rolling and hot rolling have significant differences in processing temperature, surface quality, mechanical properties, dimensional accuracy,
application areas, production costs and work hardening. The choice of which process depends on specific needs.
